Sometimes a quick trip to the river in the late afternoon in early autumn is just what the soul needs. So I headed down to the South Yuba River for a quick jaunt (2.5 miles) along a trail overlooking the river. The leaves had just started to change color and the late afternoon sun was perfect. There’s just something about the sun in California that I can never explain.
The South Yuba River is part of the California State Park system and part of the national parks. Some of it is also under private ownership. In fact, I learned a few weeks back that my maternal grandfather had considered buying land around the Bridgeport area. Basically the same area I was wandering through. Instead he opted to purchase ranch land near Lake of the Pines in the southern part of Nevada County. Oh, the things you learn about your family.
