Monday Motivation: Runners

Last weekend was the LA Marathon and it’s been awhile since I laced up my running shoes for such a long run of that length. But I hope to surpass 26.2 miles this year and find out just how far I can go. Gulp!

But that’s what runners do. They get up, put on their running shoes, and head out the door. It could be in the wee hours of the morning before anyone else it up. It could be in the middle of the day while they’re on their lunch break. It could be after work, or after they put the kids to bed. They might even toss their gear in the car and head into the dessert or up into the mountains on the weekends to get their mileage. But the one thing that all runners do, is they just get out there and do it. Sometimes they really have to suck it up because the weather is crappy or they’re sore from the previous days run but they still get out there.

If there’s one thing that running can teach us, it’s to just do it, whatever it is. Whether it’s painting the living room, writing a heartfelt note to a friend and sticking it in the mail, taking a walk, loosing weight, trying to touch your toes, or running a marathon. Commit to it. Take the first step. And then just do it. It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you stop making excuses and get out there. Run each day, literally or metaphorically or both, for you.

Now, let’s get out there and do it!
